The second school we visited wouldn’t be called so...
The Rosny-sous-Bois National Circus School is under a big top.

A big seven masts, a small administrative annex, a visitors parking on an open field. Unlike the Fratellini Academy, the big top contains the entire school.
When in case of show,  the entry is proposed  by the bottom, the usual one is by the top side of the tent. The space is divided into three parts.
Basic element of the circus today, the track is 13 m in diameter, spatial memory of
the optimal curve of a horse’s gallop. Rosny has two circus rings.

The High Ring is ideal for aerobatics and other activities that require volume.
The  technical 'grill' is used to suspend tools (lighting, trapeze 'poles', string 'spot').
The height capacity under the grill is about 14-16m. Trapeze needs as much volume.
This ring is surrounded by 4 of the 7 masts, with a large number of anchors for material (wires, swings) in the slab around the ring. This availability makes work easier and broadens the range of possible designs.

Low ring is used for dance, acrobatics, play, ... which does not require a priori neither height nor anchorage. A more intimate space.
The masts aren’t a matter, one of them is outside the tent, the two other ones ares far enough from the ring to allow the public to sit between ring and poles, a good solution for everyone to see well.

Two ‘buildings’ in length are connecting the rings, one is home to classrooms and the other for cloakrooms, utilities. Passages are available between ‘buildings’ and big top, they distribute rooms.
Between both 'buildings', the area of training. Pits trampolines are useful for communication apprentice / trainee during the exercises. While there is no trampolise, gaps are filled with big cushions (spectators’seats ?).

The structural need for continuous coverage for the big top leads consequently to natural light matters.
Overall, circus practice likes not much direct light, which is blinding (imagine a holder that doesn’t see his acrobate...). It prefers diffuse and distributed light.
At Rosny, Loïc has established electrical wiring, running from the cornice to the top of marquee, where neon tubes are connected to. Easy to implement, easy to use, not expensive. However, we must be careful with fixations of reflectors… a marquee, it moves in the wind!
Also the color of the tent had been preponderant and involves in use. The high ring is covered with black. If it is perfect for shows, it is hardly practicable in hot weather. Conversely, the problem doesn’t  seem to arise in the lower track, covered with white.

Several hypotheses of canvass have been considered with Loic Julienne and the circus school trainer.
The big top, if it materializes the idea of nomadism, is nowaday also an ecological abyss
In nothern France, weather is cold in winter, around 5° C six months per year, and frost is common during this period. Therefore, it involves a great consumption for heating the tent. The second financial post for the school, after teachers' salaries!

On the other hand, summer temperatures are around 30 ° C, medium at 25 ° C. In these conditions, not yet Palestine, the tent radiates high heat (covering surface is black on 1/3), 40°C on the ground and about the double upto the grill. In those conditions circus school is closed, impossible to work the afternoon as much as any technical adjustment in height.

We discussed the possibility of a double canvas, with isolation inbetween

This solution allows the thermic isolation and reduces radiation.

Technically, this process hasn’t yet been practically realized. Studies are considered.
Loïc Julienne is working on this issue as part of a circus in Sao Paulo. He advises us to ask about the company Ferrari, which is the European specialist in the construction of large-scale capital.

Question of the relationship to adjacent public.
Either the nomadic circus is as far as, provided that it is traveling,

Either circus is a nomadic structure, as far as trying to integrate into the city then the noise level goes in the same way.
The integration may be sound in both directions, the noise performance that communicates to the outside and the noise of the city, life enters the stage area.

The Rosny school is incorporated into the city. While the district is not particularly explicit in this regard, the School is open to amateurs who attend weekly classes, the children on Wednesday afternoon, instead of adults in the evening. Finally the school operates non-stop from 8:30 to 22h every day of the week.

The building belongs to the city of Rosny, cooperation agreements / loan 'building' linking the city and the school. Therefore the tent welcomes 3 weeks per year activities organized by the city, whichin helps the school (by the insert of scenes shows, by the circus atmosphere...) at the same time that they make known to the general public, perhaps not an usual follower of Circus Arts.
